Object Description
Very sweet and rare small format Kazak rug, late 19th century and in honest good condition. We love the ivory border design, really lifts the palette on this traditional geometric pattern. Great pale blue dyes and small soft yellow can be seen too.
Rugs bearing the name Kazak come from the highland area of the Caucasus in Azerbaijan whose centre is the town of Kazak. Woven by semi-nomadic shepherds of the region. They use fabulous vegetable dyes and high quality hand spun wool from their own herd. Depending on the weave some Kazak rugs can be extremely soft to handle as the wool is light and woven on a supple foundation.
