Object Description

A wonderfully colourful antique Khamseh kelleh with great abrash, dye change and lovely natural dyes. These tribal rugs from southern Persia have strong design similarities to the weavings of the Qasghai which share their attention to saturated color and intricate, stylized geometric motifs. Khamseh was a 19th-century confederation of tribes in Southern Persia similar in designs and colours to that of neighbouring Afshar.  Designs often consist of boteh motifs, stylised connected medallion designs, or as we see on this lovely antique kelleh a border and main field of pomegranates with great colours.  Woven around 1870-1880 this piece does have some old repairs in areas but no major damage or restoration.  We have professionally cleaned the piece and secured both ends and the sides too, it is ready for the floor and would add great interest and colour to a wood floor especially.

Request a home visit to arrange a convenient time to view this beautiful antique kelleh in your home. We travel all over the UK and Europe showing carpets in situ helping you find the ideal carpet to suit your interior.
