An early lightly distressed Antique Kuba Kelleh (Kelleh meaning long format) with stunning colours from the mid to late 19th century, the design in the main field is a fascinating array of geometric motifs, a crisply well drawn pattern and on the rarer ivory background and border. Elegant minor border of vine and leaf design, along with the Kufic larger graphic border. Early dyes have been used on this wonderful tribal Kelleh carpet.
Kuba is a rug producing town located in the north-east of the Caucaus next to the Caspian Sea. The port of Baku in Kuba had its own school for carpet-making. An amazing and collectable Caucasian rug with great design and a fantastic array of early natural colours.
