Object Description
This majestic three-piece clock set is truly a sight to behold, and features beautifully contrasting rouge marble, gilt bronze and glittering jewels. The set comprises a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, which all feature complimenting designs.
The central clock is shaped from rouge marble as a lyre, and mounted all over with gilt bronze leaves and swags, and surmounted by a gilt bronze Classical mask surrounded by sunbeams. Leading down from the Classical mask are gilt bronze lyre strings, which join to the bejewelled rim of the central, white enamel clock dial. The dial features a gilt pattern and black Arabic numerals as well as pierced gilt hands. The dial is signed ‘Festeau Le Jeune Paris’, the Parisian clockmaker who crafted this set. The clock is set on an oval shaped plinth, which is hung and banded with scrolling, foliate gilt bronze mounts, and set on toupie feet.
The pair of flanking candelabra feature central, rouge marble urns hung all around with gilt bronze swags and a jewelled rim. Each urn supports four scrolling gilt bronze arms, decorated with leaves, leading to the four lights, modelled as roses, with petal drip pans. The urns are set upon gilt bronze supports, which lead downwards to the circular, rouge marble bases and gilt bronze toupie feet.
