Antique Louis XVI Style Mahogany, Ormolu and Marble Cabinet by Mercier Frères

Standing on toupie feet, this cabinet is crafted from mahogany and is richly decorated with gilt bronze foliate and scrolled mounts. Below a rectangular grey marble top are three frieze drawers with ormolu handles. The front features three lockable parquetry cupboard doors with ebonised wood border. The sides of the cabinet are similarly-decorated.
The present piece was crafted by distinguished French furniture manufacturer Mercier Frères, established in 1828 by Claude Mercier. It was recognised as one of the leading Parisian firms of the 19th century, participating in most of the major International Exhibitions of the fin-de-siècle.
