Object Description
Antique Louis XVI style ormolu and jasperware mounted side table
French, Late 19th Century
Height 76cm, width 69cm, depth 44cm
This side table from the late 19th century draws inspiration from the refined Louis XVI aesthetic that was highly fashionable at the close of the 18th century.
Its top features a rich rouge marble surface, framed with an ornate gilt bronze border that enhances its luxurious appeal. Just below, the frieze is fitted with a discreet yet generously sized drawer, embellished with finely detailed gilt bronze mounts. A classical jasperware medallion, depicting a neoclassical scene, is set into the drawer front, adding a focal point of interest. Matching ornamentation continues around the sides of the table, contributing to its overall harmony and elegance.
The structure stands firmly on four square, tapering legs, each terminating in gilt bronze sabots. The legs are accented with beautifully cast mounts showing delicate bouquets of flowers and foliage, bound with ribbons. A shaped lower tier provides additional display or storage space.
With its timeless design, this antique table complements a range of interior styles – from classic French to transitional modern settings.
