Antique Malayer rugs, originating from Northwest Persia, are well known for the unique quality of their designs, combining the bold, graphic forms of tribal and village weavings, with the craftsmanship, precision, and delicate drawing one would expect from a fine Persian workshop piece.
This handsome early 20th-century Malayer carpet has a subtle caramel field that serves as a wonderful backdrop to the variety of soft vegetable-dyed colours in the drawing. The overall pattern is wonderfully executed and well framed by a wide border.
Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use – its organic dyed colours have taken on a fine patina with age.
