Object Description
A beautiful antique Malayer kelleh, dating from the early 20th century the natural dyes are vibrant yet have faded due to their age. A rich red border of floral leaf designs, full of greens and pale blues. The main field design is a symmetrical geometric pattern of flowers and connecting vines. Woven on a deep indigo background the variety of colours used for the pattern really lift the whole carpets palette. These large corridor carpets were more-often commissioned for the West during the mid 19th century to early 20th century for stately homes.
This carpet has been in a private home for much of its life and been used, it is in excellent condition, it has been professionally washed all by hand and there is minimal wear showing. In general the pile height is excellent throughout. The fringes are original and most of the selvedges or side-cords are too. A wonderful long antique kelleh carpet ideal for an entrance hall, narrow corridor or even under a dining table it would look quite spectacular.
