Antique Neoclassical Sèvres Style Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Jardinière and Vases
French, 19th Century
Jardinière: Height 47cm, width 49cm, depth 39cm
Vases: Height 56cm, width 26cm, depth 19cm
Consisting of a central jardinière and pair of flanking vases, this fine 19th Century garniture set is crafted from porcelain and mounted with ormolu in the Sèvres style.
The central jardinière features a royal blue body, mounted with Neoclassical style ormolu handles, base and pierced rim, which are designed with laurel leaf and floral garland details. The oval shaped bowl of the jardinière is painted with a Rococo style scene of 18th Century figures lounging in a pastoral landscape, while the other side is painted with a beautiful landscape scene. These cartouches are surrounded by a gilt border. The circular ormolu base supports the bowl, which is connected by a shaped porcelain socle with further gilt detailing.
The two vases in the set are decorated in a similar way, with royal blue porcelain bodies and ormolu mounts. Each vase is also painted, depicting courtly couples on one side, and landscape scenes on the back. The vases feature similarly shaped bases and handles, with domed porcelain lids, and surmounted by ormolu finials.
All three pieces features a spurious Sèvres mark to the underside, and the central jardinière is signed ‘Lancret’ on the front painting.
