This is a lovely antique English oil on panel of ‘Three Cavaliers’ by Frank Moss Bennett (1874-1953), signed and dated 1929.
The paint is dramatic and depicts three Cavaliers dressed in colourful French 17th-century military style costumes, featuring elements with capes, boots, lace, and broad-brimmed hats.
It is housed within the original stunning and highly elaborate carved and gilded scrolling foliate frame.
Frank Moss Bennett was a British painter of portraits, historical scenes and architecture. He was known for his posthumous portraits, particularly of soldiers killed during the First World War, which were commissioned by grieving relatives as a remembrance of their sons and husbands.
