This exquisite box is by the renowned French maker Baccarat. Since 1764, Baccarat have crafted superb glass pieces for an elite clientele, and this casket exemplifies their extraordinary craftsmanship.
The body of the box is crafted from faceted cut-crystal, featuring repeated geometric motifs. The clear glass is contrasted by golden ormolu mounts: the rims of both the hinged lid and the top of the crystal box are adorned with gilt-bronze foliate bands. The box is mounted on an ormolu cove edge base which sits atop a paw foot at each of the four corners. The base is similarly decorated with a foliate band.
Within an ormolu escutcheon sits the key, the handle of which is sculpted into the shape of a scallop shell. The key sits within an ornate escutcheon, which features two winged female figureheads.
Combining form and function, this stunning glass casket would make a wonderful addition to a dresser or desk space.
