Object Description
Antique ormolu and cut-glass Rococo-style chandelier
French, 19th Century
Height 130cm, diameter 90cm
This Rococo-style chandelier is filled with the opulent details that characterised the period. From the central ormolu stem extend twenty-four scrolling branches, which are arranged in two tiers. The arms are decorated with foliate decoration reminiscent of acanthus leaves, each finished with a decorated candle cup that holds the light fixture.
To contrast the vibrant gold ormolu, each branch is draped with numerous cut glass pendants in a variety of shapes and styles, that beautifully catch the light once the chandelier is switched on. The flared corona at the top of the central column, which is also decorated with scrolling foliate designs, is draped with further cut-glass elements.
This superb chandelier typifies Rococo-style elegance, and is a fantastic piece that would light up any interior.
