Object Description

A large pair of late 19th Century bronze figures of Mercury and Fortuna after Giambologna, Italian (1529-1608). Mercury the Roman God of Commerce, holding the caduceus in his left hand and wearing a winged helmet standing on Boreas God of the North Wind. Fortuna the Roman Goddess of Fortune, blowing a trumpet towards the heavens, standing on a Wheel of Fortune. The bronzes supported on black marble plinths with bands depicting cherubs amongst scientific instruments. (Both stamped J. Bologne)
