Object Description
Antique pair of gilt bronze and Sèvres style porcelain cachepot vases
French, 19th Century
Height 24.5cm, width 17cm, depth 15cm
The vases in this elegant pair have been mounted with gilt bronze and decorated in the style of the Sèvres manufacturer. They were designed originally to be used as cachepots, or decorative containers for plants and their pots. They are therefore bell-shaped, or Campana-form, and are set on square gilt bronze bases with flared cylindrical gilt bronze supports above. The bodies of the vases are decorated with a turquoise ground and feature central cartouches which depict figures and animals in landscapes. The lower part of the body of each vase is also mounted with jewelled twin gilt bronze handles.
