Hawksworth, Eyre & Co
The mark H E & Co on a silver plate most frequently belongs to Hawksworth, Eyre & Co, a prominent British silversmith and electroplate manufacturer established in Sheffield in 1833. History & Identification Origins: The company was founded by Charles Hawksworth and John Eyre. They were well known for their high-quality Victorian and Edwardian electroplate, flatware, and hollowware. Hallmarks: They registered marks at the Sheffield and London Assay Offices. Their primary silverplate mark was often “HE & Co” (often framed within a quatrefoil or shaped shield). Timeline: The partnership was dissolved in 1869 but continued under the same name. They went into liquidation in the 1930s, and their dies were purchased by Ellis & Co
