Object Description
Antique patinated bronze and ormolu figurative mantel clock by Dasson
French, 1888
Height 30cm, width 30cm, depth 13cm
This fine mantel clock is by the celebrated maker Henry Dasson. The clock features an off-centre design: to the right side sits the cylindrical gilt bronze drum, which contains a circular enamel dial and is topped by a cockerel sculptural surmount. To the left of the drum reclines a patinated bronze putto, who holds in one hand a gilt bronze sheet of paper and in the other a gilt bronze pencil. The plinth-form base of the clock is moulded with Neoclassical style detailing, including rosettes and scrolls, and the clock is raised on four toupie feet. The dial is signed ‘Henry Dasson / A Paris’ and the reverse is signed and dated ‘hry Dasson et Cie 1888’.
