Antique Renaissance Style Porcelain Portrait with Enamel by Lamy
French, c. 1880
Frame: Height 52cm, width 49cm, depth 3cm
Plaque: Height 33cm, width 30m, depth 0.5cm
This unusually contemporary style porcelain plaque is a beautiful example of French eclectic design in the late 19th Century.
It depicts a portrait of a young woman dressed in Renaissance style garments. Her serious expression is complemented by the monochrome palette of the painted porcelain underneath. Her clothing, in contrast, is enamelled in vibrant colours, with rich textural detailing throughout. She stands before a brown drawn curtain, decorated with a gold scrolled pattern.
The portrait is held in a giltwood frame, which features a velvet mount. It is signed ‘Lamy’ to the lower left.
