Object Description
Antique Rococo style porcelain mirror by Meissen
German, 19th Century
Height 94cm, width 66cm, depth 14cm
Manufactured by the renowned Meissen porcelain factory, which was established in 1710 and patronised by the greatest of Europe’s nobility, this mirror features an elaborate decorative scheme in a decidedly Rococo style.
The rectangular-bodied wall mirror has an arched top and an ornately shaped crown, topped with a grand bouquet of porcelain flowers. The mirror’s white porcelain frame is partially gilt and is adorned with high relief sculptural porcelain motifs. The motifs include abundant foliage which is richly coloured in the bold Rococo tones of pink, blue, and yellow. Verdant green leaves contrast attractively with the brightly tinted petals of flowers and the plumage of birds. Cherubs populate the lower corners and the crown of the frame, lending the entire ensemble a fantastic quality.
