Object Description
Antique Rococo style rosewood, ormolu and marble centre table
French, Early 20th Century
Height 76cm, diameter 92cm
This expertly crafted rosewood centre table is in the Rococo style. The table features four cabriole legs which finish in ormolu paw feet, and are mounted with ormolu along their lengths. The table-top features a lower rosewood frieze which is decorated with ormolu mounts of shells, acanthus leaves and foliage. The circular table-top is of grey, veined marble edged in ormolu mounts and protruding at four corners above the legs.
Late nineteenth and early twentieth century pieces such as this often drew upon earlier regal French styles. Like many a Belle Époque, it draws upon Rococo and Louis XV period predecessors to offer a beautiful interior addition.
