Cauldon

Cauldon Ltd, based in Cauldon Place, Staffordshire, were officially known as Cauldon (Brown-Westhead Moore & Co.) Ltd. ‘Cauldon Ltd’ was printed on their sanitary ware for short. They were the makers of high-grade pottery known as Cauldon China.

In 1814, owner John Ridgway was appointed Potter to the Queen. At the first Great Exhibition in 1851, he was awarded first prize for excellent quality of his productions, according to the Pottery Gazette in 1908.

The firm was described as “one of the first in England” by the jurors, said the gazette.

But the company later suffered from financial difficulties. By 1920, it was brought out of administration by Harold Robinson and became Cauldon Potteries Ltd.
This basin is a fragment of this impressive pottery company’s history.
