Object Description
1718 Sampler by Ann Frith. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours red, pale blue, black, cream and pale green. Verses read ‘The Law Was Given By Moses But>Grace and Truth Came By Jesus Chri’ and ‘Exodus>God spare the>se words & sad>I>Thou shalt not>have no other>Gods but me>II>Thou shalt not>take the name o>f God in vain>IV>The sabbath day>se Thou do not>Profane>V>Honour thy F>ther And Thy M>other To>VI>And See That Th>ou nom?rder Do>VII>Commit Thou no>Adultry>VIII>Morover From>All Stealing FL>IX>No False Thing>Of Thy nibours>X>Nor Covit Thou>In Any Way’.
