Antique Sampler, 1738, by Ann Cristell. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounted on acid free card with cardboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours red, cream, blue, yellow, pale blue, pale green and pink. Alphabets A-Z in upper case. Verse reads ‘RememBeR noW thy cReatoR> in the Days of thy youth. Whii> the eviL Days come not. noR> the yeaRs DRaW niGh. When> thou shaLt say I heave no Plea> suRe in them’. Signed and dated ‘Ann CRisteLL HeR WoRk Done in the yeaR of ouR LORD 1738 Finis’. A scattering of motifs, including diamonds and crowns.
