178? Sampler by Eliza. t Hevent. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Stitched to linen with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering leafy border. Colours navy blue, red, yellow, green, pale blue, white, pink, purple, cream and black. Signed and dated, ‘M Eliza.t Heven.t 178 March.28’. A wonderful set of motifs, including angels above tombs, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, crowns, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, two ladies carrying a flower basket and the spies of Canaan.
