Object Description
Georgian Sampler, 1792, by Mary Pointon. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Geometric pattern border. Colours green, gold, silver, pink, brown and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-20. Signed and dated ‘Mary Pointon’s Work 1792’. Unusual good set of motifs arranged in a scene. A large potted flowering plant to the middle, with a beehive and bees to the right and a bird and butterfly to the left. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is stretched over acid free mountboard and stitched. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
