Antique Sampler, 1816, by George Davie

Object Description

1816 House Sampler by George Davie. Framed in an antique wooden frame with glass. Fixed to card with wood and paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border. Colours blue, cream, green, pink, grey and black. Signed and dated, ‘GEORGE DAVIE 18 JUNE 1816’. The sampler features a large, neat and impressive house motif.

Object Condition

Very Good. No holes. A couple of pale patchy stains, barely visible. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
