Antique Sampler, 1816, by Mary Moss

Object Description

1816 Sampler by Mary Moss. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Stitched to linen with wood backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours greens, cream, black, pink and brown. Verse reads, ‘Love the Lord and he will be a tender father unto thee’. Signed and dated, ‘Mary Moss Work August 28th 1816’. A couple of motifs including a flower basket and a crown

Object Condition

Good. A few small holes. A few pale stain specks. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
