The sampler is finely worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours browns, cream, blue, red, pale blue, white, greens and black. Signed and dated ‘Mary Skirrow Octbr 8th 1821’. A good set of motifs, including a castle, fir trees, stags and a spaniel.

Object Condition

Generally Good. A few holes. A few pale patchy stains and some dark stain specks. One stitch loss to the border. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
