Object Description
1821 House Sampler by Mary Hassack. Framed in an old maple frame with rippled, old glass. Glued to linen with card and wood backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, blue, green, dark brown, white, pink, orange, cream and black. Verse reads ‘In these few lines my ardent wish you see> That my dear Parents long may live with me> Their kind advice may always I approve> And happy be in their continual love’. Signed and dated ‘Mary Hassack Her Work January 16 1821’. A good set of motifs, including a grand house, dogs, angels, stags, fruit baskets, crowns, birds, oak tree and potted flowering plants.
