Object Description
William IV Sampler, dated 1830, by M. Forrest. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a silk ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours green, light brown, gold, silver and blue. Signed and dated, ‘M. Forrest 8 July in the year 1830’. Central pictorial panel depicting a tranquil rural landscape, with a windmill and distant fort set on the horizon. In the foreground, a lone tree stands beside a figure tending to a horse in an open field, creating an atmospheric scene. Framed in an old, possibly original, Hogarth frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to card. Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
