Object Description
1836 Sampler by Sarah Moores. Framed in a modern gold coloured wood frame with glass. Fixed to wood, with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours greens, cream, pale blue, black, gold and browns. Verse reads, ‘Let gratitude in acts of goodness flow;>Our love is God, in love to man below.>Be this our joy to calm the troubled breast; Support the weak and succour the distrest;>Direct the wand’rer. dry the widow’s tear.>The orphan guard, the sinking spirits cheer,>The small our pow’r to act, tho’mean our skill,>God sees the heart, he judges by the will.’.
