Object Description
1837 Sampler by Ann Cossford. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Stitched over card with wood and brown paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours pink, cream, pale blue, white, greens and black. Verse reads, ‘See the kind shepherd Jesus stands>With all engageing charms>Hark how he calls the tender lambs>And folds them in his arms>Permit them approach he cries>Nor scorn their humble name>It was to bless such souls as these>The Lord of angles came>He’ll lead us to the heavenly streams>Were living waters flow>And guide us to the fruitful fields>Were trees of knowledge grow’.
