Object Description

Boy with dog sampler by Sarah Chapman, 1838. The sampler is worked in silk and fine wool on a canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colors greens, black, cream and browns. Verse reads ‘The Lord support my infant days and guide my giddy Youth

Object Condition

Good. One hole, and a couple of pulls to the ground. Two pale patchy stains. Stitch losses and a couple of loose threads to the motifs, border and signature. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretch
