Object Description

Victorian Sampler, 1842, by Ann Minter Aged 8 Years. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Meandering strawberry border. Colours green, light brown, copper, gold, silver, pink and navy blue. Signed and dated, ‘Ann Minter Finished This Sampler Dec.r 28 Aged 8 Years } 1842’. Something that was on the young girls mind at the time. Also birds, potted flowering plants, squirrels, fir trees, trees, fruit baskets, hearts and crowns. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to paper. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Object Condition

Good. A few small holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
