Object Description
Verse Sampler by Ann Simpson. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Fixed to board with chipboard and brown paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours magenta, cream, yellow, green, white, pink, blue and black. Verse reads ‘If angelf fung a saviourf birth>On that aufpiciouf morn>Then let uf imitate their mirth>Now he again if born>Himfelf he humbled to the grave>Made flefh like uf to fhew>And we af certainly fhall have>A refurrection too’. Signed, but undated, ‘Ann Simpfon Her Work’. A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a squirrel, a swan, lions, birds, potted flowering plants, fir trees, trees, crowns and angels
