An early Sarouk carpet with a crisp clear drawing due to its remarkable quality and lustrous wool. It has an overall pattern and simple design which is not common in this type of weaving. The attractive terracotta field complements the wide array of vegetable dyed colours which have aged nicely, framed by a wide blue border. A highly decorative example to blend in a wide variety of spaces.
Antique Sarouk carpets are amongst the most luxurious decorative Persian room size carpets. Their style, quality and quiet formality have made them extremely popular in the west, particularly during the 19th century. They were created in a region in western Persia where Ziegler Sultanabad and Mahal carpets are made and are distinguished by their tight weaves and soft, velvety, excellent quality wool.
