Object Description
A stunning and richly coloured Antique Sauj Bulagh kelleh in exceptional original condition, over 140 years old and dating from circa 1880. Woven from the Kurdish region in the far North-West of Persia, they are known for combining elements of classical Persian drawings with a bold and vividly colourful village aesthetic. This early Sauj Bulagh carpet uses the classic Persian all-over ‘Herati pattern’ used in the 18th century, which depicts two fish swimming around a water-lily, which can be seen in the main field. As they do look like fish almost….the wool is very soft and lustrous and the colours are deep with an almost black background, which is deep blue.
