Victorian Scottish Sampler, 1844, by Jean George. The sampler is worked in wool threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, green, light brown, pink, blue and black. Multiple alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-10. Signed and dated, ‘JEAN GEORGE PITRODIE 1844’. Pitrodie is a town in Perthshire, Scotland. A scattering of motifs, including a house with a figure in the doorway, a dog, birds, potted flowering plants, a blossoming tree, a lady and a gentleman and peacocks. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to board. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.
