Object Description
Antique sculpted marble figure of a young girl
Continental, late 19th Century
Height 77cm, width 21cm, depth 20cm
This wonderful marble sculpture is a superb piece of late 19th Century European decorative art. The sculpture portrays a young girl depicted in the ideal nude. She stands in a naturalistic pose atop a circular foot. Upon her shoulder is perched a bird, which feeds from a bundle of wheat she holds in her left hand; her right hand grasps some fruit. The quality of the carving is exceptional, with the most minor of details carefully rendered. Moreover, the sculptor has achieved an impressive array of textures—from hair, to skin, to wheat.
The base is signed ‘Bouzadou’.
