French, Early 20th Century
Large bowl: Height 32cm, width 54cm, depth 27cm
Candelabra: Height 52cm, width 30cm, depth 30cm
Comprising seven pieces, this outstanding cut crystal and ormolu garniture is an example of Baccarat’s finest work. The garniture comprises two candelabra, a large centrepiece bowl, two medium-sized bowls, and two tazze. All pieces are of a very similar design, creating cohesion within the set.
The central stem of the candelabra is covered with a bulbous cut crystal piece with a spreading socle base and tapering top. From it extends five arms, the central one towering over the other four adding height to the pieces. The ormolu candleholders are adorned with cut crystal bobeches and pendants. Both stand on superb, shaped ormolu stands cast with a plethora of nature-inspired motifs. The remaining five pieces in this garniture have stands of an almost identical design.
The crystal bowls and tazze feature a central star cut motif, accentuated by the ormolu backing. Divided by a plain band, next is a prominent sharp diamonds cut surface extending towards the edges of the pieces. The petal rims finish off each cut crystal item, adding another refined element to the garniture.
The largest bowl is mounted with a pair of scrolled ormolu handles, cast with similar motifs as those on the stands.
The crystal bears a pressed ‘BACCARAT’ mark while the ormolu is stamped with the circular Baccarat mark.
This superb and extensive garniture is a wonderful addition to one’s dining table.
