Object Description
An incredible and rare fine antique silk Farahan (Fereghan) rug woven in the late 19th century. An exquisite piece of workmanship from the Western Persia region, circa 1870-1880. Farahan is famous for using pale blues, purples, greens and yellow dyes. Which can be seen on this amazing antique silk rug, as you walk around the rug and look at it from the darker side, and into the pile. Silk rugs always change colour from one end to the other quite dramatically, as does this exceptional rare piece.
This colour palette is a typical array of dyes for these elegant silk rugs from Fereghan (Farahan) in Western Persia. The silk glistens beautifully when the light catches it. Ideal to be used hung on the wall as a work of art as it is, or on the floor in a low traffic area such as bedroom. The condition is remarkable, a soft and high silk pile all over. A rare and beautiful silk Fereghan rug, these are becoming very collectable.
