Object Description

A large Antique silver beaker with original gilt interior awarded as a prize by the Royal Agricultural Society in Denmark .On one side of the beaker is written in script-Det Kongelige Landhuusholdning Selskab- which I think translates as -The Royal Society of Agriculture. On the other side engraved in old Danish translates I think as – apologies for any error – To Farmer Lars Larsen and his wife in Nodebo for Industriousness and hard work.
Nodebo is a village about 40 km north of Copenhagen. The beaker is in very good condition and of very large size – it will hold 600 ml of liquid. Underneath it is struck with the makers mark for Nicolai Christiansen of Copenhagen for 1816 and also has the assay masters mark of Frederick Fabritius. It is also engraved on the underneath3 die baeger – which may be for third prize beaker. Dimensions, 11.5x 9cms, Weight, 7.55Troy oz
