Object Description
An Edwardian silver dish ring which is wonderfully hand pierced and chased with floral motifs, a cow, a duck, a lady in 18th century dress and a shepherd with his dog.
The ring still retains its original cobalt blue liner (which is removable) and has a cartouche to the front which has not been engraved.
The ring and the liner are both in excellent condition.
Dimensions: height 8 cm, width (at top) 17.5 cm, width (at the base) 19 cm; weight 10.25 troy oz.
The dish ring, also known as a potato ring, was introduced in the late 17th century. It was used to support a hot food dish on a table or sideboard; not only adding to the ornamentation, but also protecting the surface against heat.
