Object Description

A fine fiddle pattern flatware service for 12, with rare round bowl soup spoons and original knives (re-bladed) made in 1877 – 1891 by Aldwinckle & Slater of London (soup spoons, 1930 William Hutton and Sons of Sheffield).
Comprising: 12 round bowl soup spoons – 12 table forks – 12 dessert spoons – 12 dessert forks – 12 small spoons (six teaspoons and six coffee spoons) – 12 table knives and 12 dessert knives, plus 6 serving spoons.
This is a rare set, as original Victorian knives by the same maker are scarce (as indeed are round bowl soup spoons in the Fiddle pattern).
The original carbon steel – which would have been rusty – would have been replaced on the knives at the same time as when the round bowl soup spoons were added, and replaced, with rustless stainless steel. Stainless steel was first produced in 1913.
This fine hand forged flatware service is in superb condition and comprises in total 90 pieces.
