Object Description
Antique Georgian sterling silver cake basket, having an oval body with fine beadwork around the rim.
The body is very finely pierced and hand-engraved in a lovely style. The beadwork is repeated on the collet foot .
A very fine and attractive Antique Silver George III Cake Basket made in London in 1780 by Burrage Davenport.
It is very neatly hallmarked by the joints of the handle – two marks to one side – two marks to the other and is hallmarked on the original swing handle.
This basket also has a glorious contemporary crest of a Griffin engraved in the centre.
This basket would be perfect for fruit, bread or cakes or just as a centrepiece on a table.
