Object Description
A very rare George III silver argyle of unusually large size and fine quality.
The argyle – which has a capacity of greater than 2 UK pints (1136 ml) – has the finest hand engraved decoration of a marine nature and finely engraved borders.
Contemporary initials are engraved within a bright-cut shaped cartouche to each side.
The argyle retains its original handle and stands on a shaped rectangular foot.
The spout is wonderfully panelled and it is hallmarked on the foot, the lid and the detachable top of the tube (the interior tube was designed for receiving a hot iron bar).
A rare argyle in superb condition.
