Object Description

An elegant George III antique silver salver of circular form, with a swag and bead border. The salver stands on three claw and ball feet. The centre is engraved with an armorial, and the arms are those for “Norris” of Guist and Wood Norton, Norfolk.
Dimensions: diameter 30.6 cm Weight 27.5 troy oz
Signed/inscribed: 1781
The Reverend William Norris (1727 – 1798) acquired Wood Norton Hall in 1780, and incorporates many neoclassical features, which the salver also exhibits so well. The ‘bluebell pattern’ pattern border of this salver, which Robert Jones specialised in, clearly derives from the designs of the architect William Chambers’ pupil, John Yenn.
