Object Description

A fine large George III silver neo-classical tea urn of vase shaped form with beaded borders and stands on a square pedestal foot mounted on four ball feet.

The urn has cast reeded loop handles and the finial of the lid is formed as an acorn.

The spigot is formed most impressively as a lions face and is surmounted by its original bone tap , to prevent heat transference.

The urn is in good condition overall and made by one of the most famous makers of neo- classical silver of the third quarter of the eighteenth century.

The urn was originally made to take a hot iron from the fire ,an early form of heating element, thus it is able to be unscrewed near the base.

Dimensions, height 52 cm, width across handles 27 cm.

Weight, 80 troy oz.

This object incorporates old ivory and has been registered with Defra.
