Object Description
A Britannia standard silver Queen Anne sugar caster made by the specialist caster maker, Christopher Canner.
This fine Queen Anne caster has a fluted lower body leading to a plain centre, which is engraved with a family crest of a bull inside a contemporary cartouche.
The top has an early style locking system and very fine hand piercing. It is correctly marked on the lid, as well as the main body.
Underneath there is a later engraving of “Dr John Diven 1926” and an original scratch weight of “22 oz 10 dwt” indicating that this was originally part of a set of three in 1707.
The other caster (from the original set) would probably have been a fair bit larger going by the total weight of twenty two and a half ounces.
This is an elegant and reasonably unusual form of Queen Anne caster.
Dimensions: height 17 cm; weight 5.5 troy oz.
