An excellent pair of antique silver table ornaments beautifully modelled as seagulls with broad feathered wings and animated faces. Large size and excellent weight. These birds are very realistic and have skilfully chased detail.

Bird 1 Wing height 25.5cm. Length (beak to tail) 22.5cm. Wing span 35.3cm.
Bird 2 Wing height 29.4cm. Length 21.6cm (beak to tail). Wing span 20.2cm.

Marks. Both birds are stamped on the edge of each wing. One wing has German silver marks for Hanoi. The other wing has English import marks for London 1901 and “925” for sterling silver.
Maker: Berthold Muller
Berthold Mueller was an import firm, who distributed a lot of Neresheimer silver. The firm changed its name in 1915 to Berthold Muller and was listed as wholesale silversmiths and jewellers, antique reproduction in silver, ivories, miniatures, enamels, and so forth.
B. Neresheimer & Sohne, Hanau, Germany offered a wide range of highly decorative objects like nefs, tankards, coconut and nautilus cups, and other sumptuous sideboard pieces. Hanau silver was largely imported in UK between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
