(Throughout the test of time the drum top table in any shape, size
and configuration has remained a hugely desirable object. They do
of course come in many different sizes, qualities, woods and periods.
This example if particularly nice due to the overall quality including
excellent choice of veneers, mahogany drawer linings and a superb
quality replacement leather huge that has been skilfully tooled. It stands
on a simple but elegant three splay base, which is always an important
part of this type of table as generally this is where the overall elegance does.
or doesn’t come from. This particular table is also significantly smaller
than standard opening up the possibility of using it in many more places
around the modern day home. It is however, unlike some that we have
handled, still very much big enough to be useful and functional, not just
something for decoration. Although the handles are later replacements, they
have been well thought out with the lions head pattern on the end of the brass
knob tying in nicely with the original lions paw castors on the end of each leg.)
